Learning Support Assistant

St Mary's Catholic School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to join our strong SEND/Inclusion team, supporting pupils across the secondary curriculum. The successful candidate will be positive, proactive, and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team. Applicants should have strong English and Maths skills, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), and a good level of ICT competence to support learning and communicate effectively with staff and pupils. We are seeking a flexible and enthusiastic Learning Support Assistant to support pupils across the secondary curriculum, from English and Maths to Science, PE, and beyond. You will be patient, proactive, and confident working both independently and as part of a team. A key part of the role is to deliver targeted, evidence-based interventions that accelerate progress for vulnerable learners, including pupils with SEND, those eligible for Pupil Premium, and other disadvantaged groups. Working closely with teachers and the SENDCo, you will lead small-group interventions and focus sessions, adapting provision to maximise impact. These roles include opportunities to take a lead in a specialist area, sucj as Literacy, Numeracy, Science, or Social Skills interventions, planning and delivering structured programmes to support pupil progress. The role includes supporting individuals, small groups, and occasionally whole classes, as well as observing pupils and providing regular feedback on academic, social, and emotional development. ECT Programme
We run a structured and highly supportive ECT programme here at St Thomas the Apostle School. Our aim is to help you continue on your path towards being an outstanding practitioner with a 2-year programme of support, induction and training. The London South Teaching School Hub leads ECTs in their training, using the UCL Full Induction programme. ECTs also have support from an assigned mentor, whom they meet regularly for support and guidance.
The ECT programme includes:
- Regular informal (and occasional formal) observations with open dialogue and clear targets
- An assigned subject-specialist ECT Mentor
- Additional support from the ECT Induction Tutor and the Teaching and Learning team
